The Gemmel Family started their farm in 2010 in Berlin Center Ohio. As their family grew, they saw the growing need in the surrounding community for local, healthy, sustainable and kindly raised meat sources. They set out to fill this need and now raise cows, chickens, pigs, and bees in a natural and humane way.
Sleepy Hollow Farms is a vegetable farm in Newton Falls Ohio that uses all natural and organic processes to grow their food. Tony Satone has a two acres dedicated to field crops as well as 4 greenhouses to grow a wide variety of vegetables. Their harvest includes produce such as turnips, kale, pumpkins and squash.

Although in most parts of the world some forms of produce are available year-round, produce is at its best and least expensive when in season. The seasonality of produce depends on regional variables such as climate and weather, and the seasons of the year.
Organic foods are foods produced by organic farming. Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as organic within their borders. In the context of these regulations, organic food is food produced in a way that complies with organic standards set by national governments and international organizations. Although the produce of kitchen gardens may be organic, selling food with the organic label is regulated by governmental food safety authorities.
Our criteria included recommendations taken from The Cornucopia Institute Scorecards (soy and carrageenan). As well, we looked at the operation of the business, relationship to suppliers and producers, and the taste and quality of the actual food items themselves.
Poor nutrition is a chronic problem often linked to poverty, poor nutrition understanding and practices, and deficient sanitation and food security. Malnutrition globally provides many challenges to individuals and societies. Lack of proper nutrition contributes to worse class performance, lower test scores, and eventually less successful students and a less productive and competitive economy.
